Ti posjeti i aktivan politički dijalog pokazuju koliko obje strane pozornosti posvećuju jačanju bilateralne suradnje.
S europskim partnerima surađujemo i u području zelene energije. Azerbajdžan sada aktivno razvija proizvodnju zelene energije. Ranije je ovdje bilo riječi o elektroenergetskoj mreži i povezivanju mreža. To je vrlo važno. Usporedno s ulaganjima u energetsku infrastrukturu, uključujući infrastrukturu za zelenu energiju, znatna smo sredstva uložili i u povećanje kapaciteta naše mreže.
Primjerice, nedavno smo zaključili posao u Italiji.
Istodobno razvijamo suradnju s brojnim drugim partnerima, među ostalim u području logistike i međunarodnog prijevoza.
Spomenuli ste proizvodnju hrane. Proizvodimo dovoljno hrane za domaću potrošnju, a aktivno surađujemo i s drugim partnerima u našoj regiji. No Azerbajdžan nudi i svoje tranzitne kapacitete. Desetljećima smo mnogo ulagali u razvoj tranzitne infrastrukture, naših luka, željezničkih pruga i autocesta. To je znatno povećalo tranzitne mogućnosti naše zemlje. Postupno smo mogli vidjeti kako raste interes za prijevoz robe, uključujući prehrambene proizvode, preko teritorija Azerbajdžana.
U tom kontekstu želim spomenuti Srednji koridor.
Hvala.

Speech of ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan at INTERENEF 13th of October 2026, Anar Imanov
I would like to thank the organizers of this great event for inviting me and giving an opportunity to present here.
So, the cooperation in the energy sphere between Azerbaijan and European Union countries is basically the field which we developed actively for a long time. It’s a traditional field of cooperation. Azerbaijan is a recognized reliable partner of EU on energy cooperation. We have developed for decades long cooperation in this sphere.
Recent years, this cooperation has significantly developed, activated in 2022 during the visit of Madame Ursula von der Leyen in Baku. A memorandum of understanding was signed between Azerbaijan and the European Union on strategic partnership on energy. And based on that document, we agreed to double gas supply to Europe. And since 2022, around the volume of the gas supplied from Azerbaijan to Europe increased 65%. So currently we have very active dialogue with our European partners.
In this year, in 2026, in March, there was a visit of Mr. Costa, President of European Council to Baku. Then in May, you know, the head of European Diplomacy, Madame Kallas had official visit.
So, this visit, this active political dialogue indicates or reflects how both sides pay attention to activating bilateral collaboration. We are now actively working on also expanding the capacity of Southern Gas Corridor. This is the main infrastructure which provides opportunity for us to deliver gas to Europe. So, and the works are going on on basically doubling the capacity of Southern Gas Corridor.
But we also cooperate with our European partners on a green energy topic. Azerbaijan is now actively developing production of green energy. Earlier it was mentioned here about grid, electricity, grid connections. This is very important. What we did while investing in our energy infrastructure, including green energy infrastructure, we also invested a lot on expanding our grid capacity.
So, it is not enough to produce energy. It is also important to have capacity to be able to connect it to the grid and to use it. So, that job was actually done in Azerbaijan in parallel way and it helped us to significantly increase production of a green energy as well.
Azerbaijan has a very huge offshore potential of wind energy and the onshore potential of solar energy. And we have already signed several significant contracts on developing those fields. And in the next five years, around eight gigawatts of energy will be produced only from a green energy. And that’s why we also agreed with our European partners on the green energy corridor.
On the green energy corridor, basically, we agreed that Azerbaijan will provide European partners. And in first stage, it is Romania and Hungary with electricity, which would be produced only based on the green energy sources. So, it is a cable, electricity cable, through Georgia and the Black Sea to Romania and then Hungary. Potentially other countries, including Croatia, can be part of that project as well. So, we are working closely with the European partners on not only gas and oil supply, but also on green energy, as I said. Basically, EU is our biggest trade partner.
Basically, 40% of entire trade of Azerbaijan goes to Europe, but also Azerbaijan is the biggest, largest partner of EU in our region, by about 70% of entire trade of EU in our region comes to Azerbaijan.
We are also not only working on the mention spheres, but also, we are going further and developing bilateral cooperation in EU countries. For example, in Italy just recently, we finalized a deal. Our SOCAR State Oil Company bought 100% of shares of Italiana Petroli, invested 3 billion to that project with commitment to further developing two refineries of this company and opening new working places.
So, we are diversifying the field of cooperation with our European partners.
Security situation in our neighbourhood is not satisfying. I mean, it’s, you know, Azerbaijan, the only country in the world which has land borders both with Russia and Iran. And what is going on in our neighbourhood, of course, affects us and we would be happy if there would be no war between Russia and Ukraine or there will be stability in the Middle East and the Hormuz Strait would be open. All those developments and situations are affecting us. We have good relations with our neighbours, we trade with them, and if the economy is affected, if they are under sanctions, of course, it affects us.
So, we follow a sanction regime, both regarding Iran and regarding Russia, and of course its effects trade between us, between Azerbaijanis and its mentioned neighbours. Meanwhile, we are developing cooperation with many other partners and in the sphere of logistics and international transportation.
You said about food production. We do produce enough food for internal consuming, and also, we actively cooperate with other partners in our region. But Azerbaijan also offers its transit potential. And for over decades, we invested heavily to developing our transit infrastructure, our ports, our railroads and our highways. And it’s really affected transit capabilities of our country. And gradually we could see how it increases the interest of transporting goods, including food products through territory of Azerbaijan.
And in this regard, I want to mention the Middle Corridor. Middle Corridor, it’s very important transportation route of transporting goods from Asia through Kazakhstan and then Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey to Europe and from Europe to Asia. And in recent years, we see significantly increased the interest on this project.
Recently in Croatia there was, you know, Croatia chaired Three Seas Initiative and hosted a summit of Three Seas Initiative this April. And we see also significant increase of interest from Croatia side on cooperating in the framework of this project. And considering to somehow link logistical and transportation projects within the Three Seas Initiative with the Middle Corridor project. So, this is a pretty potential, promising field of cooperation between Azerbaijan and its European partners. And I think it’s our contribution to food security issues.
Thank you.
